Being there, when and where it all begins. ICSA team know well enough the sage old saying: with great powers come great responsibilities. They are our reporters at large, our local superheroes, the wishing well Maîtres of Ceremony of what we might undoubtedly call the New Taiwan Food Scene. Like no others around, they have a perspective, a sharp focus and a commun goal. Through their travels they have gained access to all the knowledge, the ancient and the new data, the traditions and the necessary transgressions, they give voice to a new upcoming culinary generation and its hope of change. Most of all Cathy and Jacky relentlessly walk on the thin thread of history, pulling up for the very first time the curtain linking the close by and the far away, linking the local to the whole Asian continent. The world at your doorstep. Everybody is looking at Taipei now, everybody knows for sure Taipei has to become the ‘pure player’’ in the ever evolving and form shifting global culinary scene. Call them dreamers, call them the igniters, call them the catalysts: without Chao and Yang nothing of all this would have been possible. Please give them a hug them and help them to make Taipei culinary scene a much more inspiring world to live in.

ICSA Master of Ceremonies / Mason Florence

A native New Yorker, Mason began his career in 1990 as a Kyoto-based correspondent for The Japan Times newspaper and a travel guidebook author for Lonely Planet. In 2004 he relocated to Thailand where he founded Talisman Media Group, publisher of Bangkok 101 magazine and the Bangkok Art Map (BAM!), and still contributes to a number of international publications.

Mason was formerly the Executive Director of the Mekong Tourism Coordinating Office (MTCO), promoting sustainable tourism in the six countries along the Mekong River, and from 2008-2018 acted as an Academy Chairperson for The World’s 50 Best & Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants. He is also the co-founder of Gastronauts Asia – an international media platform and community of like-minded food nomads united in the pursuit of producing extraordinary culinary events.
